{"id":2241,"date":"2017-06-05T01:40:05","date_gmt":"2017-06-04T15:40:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cyclingclassics.com.au\/bowral\/2017\/06\/05\/ambassador-profile-megan-scott\/"},"modified":"2025-03-18T14:45:02","modified_gmt":"2025-03-18T03:45:02","slug":"ambassador-profile-megan-scott","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cyclingclassics.com.au\/bowral\/2017\/06\/05\/ambassador-profile-megan-scott\/","title":{"rendered":"Ambassador Profile: Megan Scott"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>She\u2019s a seriously accomplished rider and an inspiration for many &#8211; meet Megan Scott, one of our 2017 Bowral Classic ambassadors.<\/p>\n<p>As first rider home in the women\u2019s category of the inaugural Bowral Classic, Megan is well-aware many will be eyeing her back wheel come October 22.<\/p>\n<p>Juggling the difficult balance of work and training in the months leading up to this year\u2019s event, we caught up with the ever-busy Megan and started by asking what it is she loves about cycling?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is really social whilst also being competitive and challenging &#8211; both physically and mentally,&#8221; said Megan.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I love the adventures I get to go on, the places I see and all the people I get to share those experiences with.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bowral Classic: <\/strong>Your First Bike?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Megan Scott:<\/strong> My first road bike was a Giant Advanced Avail 2.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3202\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3202\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3202 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bowralclassic.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/Megan-Scott2-1024x640.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"640\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3202\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Megan Scott, Bowral Classic ambassador and first female rider across the line in the 2016 event.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>BC: <\/strong>What about your current bike?<\/p>\n<p><strong>MS:<\/strong> The same as my first bike &#8230;\u00a0Although I have upgraded the groupset, changed the wheels, and recently upgraded the saddle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BC: <\/strong>Tell us your peak cycling moment to date?<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>MS:<\/strong> Other than winning the Bowral Classic of course, riding the Haute Route through the Swiss Alps and Dolomites last year. The scenery was amazing, the climbs incredible and the race had a great atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BC: <\/strong>How about\u00a0you&#8217;re dream\u00a0cycling destination?<\/p>\n<p><strong>MS:<\/strong> There are so many, but right now after just seeing the incredible climbing my friend did in Tenerife &#8211; yes it definitely has to be Tenerife.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BC: \u00a0<\/strong>And\u00a0your favourite ride in Australia?<\/p>\n<p><strong>MS:<\/strong> There are a lot of places in Australia where I still need to ride, but of the places I have been to (and other than the Southern Highlands of course) the Victorian Alps has to be up there, so Falls Creek, Mount Buffalo, Hotham.\u00a0 It\u2019s really beautiful in that area and yup, the climbing is great.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3203\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3203\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3203 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bowralclassic.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/Megan-Scott-e1496625773360-1024x769.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"769\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3203\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Megan recommends at least one long training ride per week in the lead up to the Bowral Classic.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>BC: <\/strong>Tell us one thing\u00a0you\u00a0want from this year\u2019s Bowral Classic?<\/p>\n<p><strong>MS:<\/strong> To look up every now and again and enjoy the amazing scenery the Southern Highlands has to offer. And to win again would be nice!<\/p>\n<p><strong>BC: <\/strong>Finally Megan, what three tips\u00a0would you give fellow Bowral Classic riders in the lead up to\u00a0the event?<\/p>\n<p><strong>MS: <\/strong>First\u00a0would have to be consistency. Training consistently is really important to both improving your cycling and also mentally.\u00a0 It is always hard to start again and if you don\u2019t train consistently you have to keep starting again over and over!<\/p>\n<p>My second tip is to include a long ride in your training once a week. Slowly build up to the distance of the event, particularly if you have not done that distance before.<\/p>\n<p>Last but not least &#8211; have fun and mix things up so you don\u2019t lose your motivation. Ride new places every now and again, meet new people to ride with, ride with different bunches and ride with friends who are fun and also those that can challenge you.
