{"id":2280,"date":"2017-09-10T22:40:32","date_gmt":"2017-09-10T12:40:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cyclingclassics.com.au\/bowral\/2017\/09\/10\/3875-2\/"},"modified":"2025-03-20T10:05:25","modified_gmt":"2025-03-19T23:05:25","slug":"3875-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cyclingclassics.com.au\/bowral\/2017\/09\/10\/3875-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Bont Cycling Release New Premium Shoe, The Helix"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"article-figure-inline\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\n<\/figure>\n<p>Bont Cycling,\u00a0the little Aussie company with\u00a0a big\u00a0name on the global cycling scene, has released a new premium-level shoe, the Helix.<\/p>\n<p>Bicycling Australia recently made the trip to EuroBike, the world&#8217;s biggest annual bike show held in Germany, where they caught\u00a0up with Steven Nemeth of Bont Cycling.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/kdEGRpcUJ1U\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/kdEGRpcUJ1U<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A valued supporting partner of the Bowral Classic, it was fascinating to listen to Steven as he\u00a0explained all that goes into a new cycling shoe, especially one so innovative and advanced as the Helix.<\/p>\n<h4>From Dream To Reality<\/h4>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been working on this project for around 9 months and are very happy with how it\u2019s turned out,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor us integration with the shoe is the big thing,\u201d he continued. \u201cWe wanted to put a shoe together that really could become a part of the riders&#8217; foot. In most traditional types of shoes you\u2019ll have a ratchet system that essentially pulls the upper tight, across the top. What we wanted to do was get something that would work around the whole foot and basically pull the shoe around it rather than just applying localised tension.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"article-figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cyclingclassics.com.au\/bowral\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/09\/IMG_53762.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><figcaption class=\"article-figcaption\"><span class=\"img-credit\">The Aussie cycling shoe company going global &#8211; Bont Cycling&#8217;s display at EuroBike.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Wire cabling from a single BOA dial routes rearward, down the side of the shoe and into a tube where it\u2019s guided around the carbon soul before making the return loop the the closure. It\u2019s one of those design concepts that make you think \u2018why wasn&#8217;t this done earlier?\u2019 But, as Steven explained, turning the design concept into reality was both challenging and complicated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe foot\u2019s not the easiest shape to shape to work around,\u201d he said. \u201cEspecially with the various bone structures. But we managed to get around it and it now works quite nicely. What it does is spread the load across the foot in a thorough way. There\u2019s no spot tension, it\u2019s a very gradual and very comfortable pull. It makes you feel even more part of the shoe than ever before.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>How Much Do They Weigh?<\/h4>\n<figure class=\"article-figure-inline\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cyclingclassics.com.au\/bowral\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/09\/IMG_5726.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><figcaption class=\"article-figcaption\"><span class=\"img-credit\">The new Helix comes in a range of colours and features a 3D printed design motif.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In size 46.5 the Bont Helix on display weighed 265grams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost shoes around that size are up around the 300 + grams,\u201d said Steven. \u201cWe are very happy with the finished product &#8211; particularly the weight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aimed at the high end of the market, Steven said the Helix was for the elite road rider wanting the best.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s for riders who want that extra step,\u201d he said. \u201cYou could be an average person who wants a high-performance shoe \u2026 you could be a racer who wants something unique and something to be closely connected to &#8211; the Helix is for anyone who wants extra quality and extra innovation.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4>Fantastic\u00a0Feedback<\/h4>\n<p>Launched to a global audience at EuroBike 2017, Steven said the reception and public perception had been \u201cawesome\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen people turn the shoe over and see the cable integration they are really blown away,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Then when they put it on and tension it up they really understand what the shoe is about &#8211; the feedback here has been phenomenal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt really is nice to have a small Aussie company to be able to produce something that\u2019s been so well received at the world\u2019s biggest bike show,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The Bont Helix will be available in black, white, red, blue and green &#8211; each colour featuring eye-catching 3D printed upper design highlights.
