Born in Columbia where cycling is a national sport, Alejandra Mora decided to make the big move to Sydney where her passion for cycling continues to grow as she experiences new landscapes and all that Australia has to offer.<\/span> <\/span><\/h3>\n

We had a chat with the avid cyclist and learnt a\u00a0bit\u00a0more about her.<\/span><\/p>\n

B<\/b>owral\u00a0<\/b>C<\/b>lassic<\/b>:<\/b>\u00a0<\/b>So, h<\/b>ow long have you been cycling and how did you get into the sport?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Alejandra Mora:<\/b><\/span>\u00a0I started cycling about\u00a0five\u00a0years ago. In Columbia cycling has always been a national sport\u00a0and\u00a0I was introduced to the sport by my dad.\u00a0In fact, amateur\u00a0cycling in Columbia is taken\u00a0pretty seriously.<\/span><\/p>\n

BC: Y<\/b>ou recently moved here, how are you liking Australia so far?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

AM:<\/b><\/span>\u00a0I like it very much! I bought\u00a0a\u00a0new bike about\u00a0two\u00a0months ago\u00a0so I\u2019m starting to learn\u00a0all of\u00a0the\u00a0roads and\u00a0about\u00a0your\u00a0people and cycling clubs.\u00a0Everything is new for\u00a0me but I\u2019m feeling safer\u00a0and the\u00a0roads are beautiful\u00a0and\u00a0close to the beach.\u00a0Sydney also has nice topography with\u00a0the\u00a0mountains as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

BC:\u00a0<\/b>I guess it\u2019s a bit of a weird time in the world<\/b>, so<\/b>\u00a0to have moved here during\u00a0<\/b>all of<\/b>\u00a0the isola<\/b>tion must have been strange.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

AM:<\/b><\/span>\u00a0It was kind of perfect for\u00a0me\u00a0actually to\u00a0ride solo as I didn\u2019t know much initially so it gave me time to get used to\u00a0riding here.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

BC:\u00a0<\/b>Is the cycling terrain and vibe much different here\u00a0<\/b>than in<\/b>\u00a0Columbia?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

AM:<\/b><\/span>\u00a0I think cycling has the same passion everywhere,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0like the same language. I feel that in Columbia there are\u00a0so\u00a0many people\u00a0already\u00a0riding, but here my perception is that every day more people are starting cycling.\u00a0I think the isolation and COVID-19 was good for\u00a0that as you are able to focus on\u00a0sport\u00a0so a lot of families have introduced cycling.<\/span><\/p>\n

BC:\u00a0<\/b>I<\/b>t<\/b>\u00a0<\/b>seems to have\u00a0<\/b>a pretty big following here, but\u00a0<\/b>maybe\u00a0<\/b>in comparison to other\u00a0places<\/b>\u00a0<\/b>it<\/b>\u00a0i<\/b>s still<\/b>\u00a0a<\/b>\u00a0rela<\/b>tiv<\/b>ely\u00a0small community which is constantly growing and getting bigger.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

AM:<\/b><\/span>\u00a0Yeah,\u00a0it\u2019s \u00a0growing\u00a0a lot and fast.<\/span><\/p>\n

BC:\u00a0<\/b>As you said, people are finding more time to learn new skills and find new interests so we might see even more cyclists out and about once isolation is over<\/b>.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

With that in mind,<\/b>\u00a0what do you enjoy most about cycling?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

AM:<\/b><\/span>\u00a0There are\u00a0three\u00a0main answers\u00a0for\u00a0me. The first is because\u00a0it makes me feel alive,\u00a0I can go anywhere which is a great feeling. The second is that I\u00a0have\u00a0made so many good friends that I will have my whole life. The third is the competitive nature of the sport, you put your\u00a0whole heart into it and feel the passion of a pro\u00a0rider, even if you aren\u2019t!\u00a0Every time you\u00a0ride your\u00a0ability\u00a0improves.\u00a0When\u00a0you once could only\u00a0ride 20km,\u00a0you\u00a0then build\u00a0to 50km or\u00a0even 100km, that feeling\u00a0is so nice. But if you stop, getting going again is\u00a0tough.<\/span><\/p>\n

BC:\u00a0<\/b>Have you still been trying to keep fit during isolation? How have you been doing so<\/b>\u00a0far<\/b>?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

AM:<\/b><\/span>\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0actually\u00a0much\u00a0better\u00a0because there are a lot less cars on the\u00a0road so it\u2019s a lot safer\u00a0and you have a bit more freedom than normal. The only thing that I miss is the company of other\u00a0riders, but it is much\u00a0better\u00a0and\u00a0the air\u00a0is cleaner.<\/span><\/p>\n

BC:\u00a0<\/b>Do you have any tips for\u00a0anyone trying to stay fit during isolation?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

AM:<\/b><\/span>\u00a0Well the smart\u00a0[indoor\u00a0trainer]\u00a0rides have been very popular, but if you do not have access to this, just be free to go outside and just enjoy the\u00a0ride. Just don\u2019t ever\u00a0stop and keep moving forward.<\/span><\/p>\n

BC:\u00a0<\/b>Awesome! What are you hoping to get out of the Bowral Classic this year\u00a0and what are you looking forward to most?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

AM:<\/b><\/span>\u00a0I\u2019m looking forward to the competition and everything involved with that. To be around a lot of cyclists, to feel like a pro and also enjoy the day with family and friends.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0much more than cycling, it\u2019s a great day\u00a0to\u00a0see your\u00a0hard work in action and to enjoy and share your\u00a0passion with everyone.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

BC:\u00a0<\/b>I guess it<\/b>\u00a0i<\/b>s much more than just a\u00a0ride, have you been to Bowral before?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

AM:<\/b><\/span>\u00a0No,\u00a0I haven\u2019t, I would love to go down there before the\u00a0ride.\u00a0I have some friends who train there and say that it is just beautiful.<\/span><\/p>\n

BC:\u00a0<\/b>Yeah,<\/b>\u00a0you\u2019ll have to go down there before and get a feel of the area and do a practice\u00a0ride!<\/b>\u00a0<\/b>Our\u00a0final<\/b>\u00a0question is what would be your\u00a0favourite snack or\u00a0go to meal after\u00a0a big\u00a0ride?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

AM:<\/b><\/span>\u00a0I think after a ride I like to have some carbs because I need to recover so something like pasta or rice I love.<\/span><\/p>\n
