‘Scenery wise it’s stunning … the challenge, the difficulty factor, the roads … it’s one of Australia’s best rides’ – the words of David Kemp, former professional cyclist and Race Director of the inaugural Noosa Classic to be held on August 26, 2018.
The third in a successful series of cycling classics events hosted by Bicycling Australia, the Noosa Classic follows on from South Australia’s Clare Classic (April 8) and the multiple award winning Bowral Classic in the NSW Southern Highlands on October 21.
Now riding for fun, fitness, and the sheer love of the sport, David Kemp said being involved with the Noosa Classic was an opportunity to give back to the cycling world while showcasing the region’s world-class cycling.
‘Who Needs A Second Excuse To Visit Noosa?’
“It’s going to be hugely popular,” he said from his home in Noosa. “After all, who needs a second excuse to visit this amazing place – especially at that time of year when the southern capitals are firmly in the grasp of winter.”
“With average August temperatures in the mid twenties, it’s like a Melbourne summer here … without the rain,” he said with a laugh.
“Seriously the region is a cycling paradise – I’m particularly excited to watch the success of this event unfold.”
Course wise the Noosa Classic will feature 160km Maxi-Classic, 120km Challenge-Classic and 45km Social-
Classic options. With a ride for cyclists of all skill levels and abilities – plus of course the location, scenery and Noosa’s natural ‘wow’ factor – the event is sure to be one of the national cycling highlights of the year.
The Classic will attract riders from across Australia and overseas to the iconic Noosa region. A mecca for sporting and outdoors enthusiasts, Noosa offers a diverse selection of options for visitors – beautiful beaches, the stunning hinterland and unforgettable shopping … all in a casual and relaxed, al fresco environment.
