Years in the planning and with less than 5-weeks to go, cyclists from around Australia are making final preparations for the inaugural Noosa Classic to be held on August 26.
Known as a Gran Fondo, a term meaning long distance road cycling ride, around 1200 cyclists along with their families and friends will zero in on Australia’s ‘Relaxation Capital’ for the exciting event – one that’s great for cycling and a major boost for the local Noosa region economy.
What’s In Store For Locals?
With the Noosa Classic Village to be in place at Read Park Tewantin over the weekend of August 25/26, we are hoping to see as many locals as possible at the event.
Make sure you visit the Read Park village on Saturday and Sunday where there will be a wide range of food on offer along with quality local beers, wines and soft drinks for sale. Some of the world’s best cycling gear will also be on show at the exhibitor’s displays. And make sure you grab yourself a free Noosa Classic event bell so you can cheer the riders along on Sunday.

Where To See The Action
Along with the cyclists, hundreds of people including family and friends are expected to be in town for the weekend. Top spots to see the action stretch from the coast to the country – from picture-perfect Boreen Point to Pomona, Kin Kin and out to Imbil and Kandanga in the rolling green hinterland countryside. The finish arch near the cricket oval will be the place to be in the afternoon as the riders return home for a well-earned drink.

Will There Be Any Traffic Delays?
Noosa Classic merchandise will be available at the Read Park event village on Saturday August 25 & Sunday August 26.
The ride starts at Read Park – the Noosa-Tewantin Cricket Ground – at 0630 on August 26. There will be minor traffic delays at Goodwin Street Tewantin with the street open to local traffic only.
Gyndier Drive will be closed, but only during the event on Sunday. This is for the safety of pedestrians, dog walkers and of course the cyclists. Traffic control will be in place along Noosa-Cooroy Rd while the event is underway. No other significant disruptions are expected.
Riding For Charity
More than a bike ride, participants will be pedalling for many worthy causes with riders of the Noosa Classic’s sister event, the Bowral Classic, collectively raised more than $250,000 for charity in its first two years.
