On average, one person is diagnosed with cancer every 20 minutes in Queensland. Sadly, all of us know someone who is affected. Cancer Council Queensland is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people living with cancer, through research, patient care, prevention and early detection.
Sunshine Coast local and brain cancer survivor, Gavin Grant, is well aware of the importance Cancer Council Queensland’s services.
‘When I was first diagnosed with a brain tumour, I attended a Cancer Council Queensland information and support seminar where I met someone with a similar condition to me, who was still up and walking around a decade after they were first diagnosed.’
With such uncertainty surrounding his diagnosis, Gavin said meeting this person was the one thing that made him believe he could beat his prognosis.
‘It gave me hope,’ said Gavin. ‘And hope is real – without it, I wouldn’t be here.’
With your help, we can continue to provide hope and support to the 30,000 Queenslanders, like Gavin, who are diagnosed with cancer annually.
