Sustainability action plan 2022 event

The Noosa Classic event is committed to delivering a sustainable event in 2022 and is working with Tourism Noosa on the following strategies;

Community – We recognise the importance of the local community in hosting the Noosa Classic. We wish to minimise disruption to the wider community who are notified through event communications via;

  • ▪  Social media
  • ▪  Community notices
  • ▪  Letterbox drop to local residents and businesses
  • ▪  Local print and radio channels

The Noosa Classic is aimed towards a Plastic Free Event. We will not be supplying single use plastics to our riders or spectators. Riders will be required to bring their own refillable water bottle for their ride, rather than use plastic cups. All vendors and suppliers have been advised our event is plastic free.

In addition, we will be purchasing Noosa Water aluminium water bottles for distribution amongst our volunteers and sale in the event village.

The Unity Water system has been booked for use encouraging participants and supports to refill bottles. This is located at our start and finish line areas.

We are committed to the development of sustainable events and have appointed a Waste Contractor who can benchmark our waste data, service our recycling, refundable and composting options and ensures our waste to landfill is minimised.

Noosa Classic are engaging event volunteers as “Waste Warriors” who will assist with the education of patrons and partners with these initiatives. These volunteers will be educated and trained prior to the event commencement by the Sustainable Events Officer, Tourism Noosa.

OzHarvest have been booked to collect all left-over food and drinks post event so they can be redistributed to those community members in need. They will collect Sunday at 4:30pm from our event village.

From rider registration fees, $1 from every entry will go to Tourism Noosa’s tree rehabilitation program “Trees for Tourism” in partnership with Noosa & District Landcare as a voluntary carbon sequestration commitment.

The Noosa Classic event team is committed to making further improvements at our 2022 event in the areas of;

  • ♦  Measuring our waste and water usage
  • ♦  Offering refillable water containers to riders
  • ♦  Recyclables – increasing the amount of recyclables
  • ♦  Reducing the amount of Landfill

We aim for a sustainability score of 70% for our 2022 event.

Our 2022 Sustainability document is completed and issued amongst all key event stakeholders, riders and the local community. A copy of the policy is available here.
