{"id":2366,"date":"2019-06-20T23:15:03","date_gmt":"2019-06-20T13:15:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cyclingclassics.com.au\/noosa\/2019\/06\/20\/king-and-queen-of-the-mountain-what-are-riders-facing\/"},"modified":"2025-03-19T21:58:31","modified_gmt":"2025-03-19T10:58:31","slug":"king-and-queen-of-the-mountain-what-are-riders-facing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cyclingclassics.com.au\/noosa\/2019\/06\/20\/king-and-queen-of-the-mountain-what-are-riders-facing\/","title":{"rendered":"King and Queen of the Mountain: just what are riders facing?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s both a highlight and challenge for riders and the King and Queen of the Mountain segments are back for the 2019 Noosa Classic!<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s Gran Fondo event will see the previous three climbs merged into one with the infamous Cootharaba serving as the location.<\/p>\n<p>Both Maxi Classic (160km) and Challenge Classic (120km) participants will be given the chance to conquer the rise.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5333 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cyclingclassics.com.au\/noosa\/wp-content\/uploads\/Noosa-Classic-57-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"429\" height=\"286\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Those with a competitive streak can also see their name on the Noosa Honour Board if they finish the timed climb faster than other riders in their category.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maxi<\/strong> riders will encounter the steep climb well into the course, 139km in to be exact, and will gain 144m in elevation over a distance of 3.3km.<\/p>\n<p>With an average grade of 4% reaching a maximum of 9% in some places, this is not for the faint-heated and will push you to your limits!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5203 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cyclingclassics.com.au\/noosa\/wp-content\/uploads\/NOOSA-120KM-KOM-2019-300x80.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"807\" height=\"215\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Challenge<\/strong> riders will experience the same tricky conditions but will have a bit less lactic acid in the legs with Cootharaba appearing 92km into the course.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, King and Queen of the Mountain titles for both races will be richly deserved when the results come through on that Sunday afternoon in the not too distant future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s both a highlight and challenge for riders and the King and Queen of the Mountain segments are back for the 2019 Noosa Classic!
