Your complete guide to the Social Classic 45km

With the 2019 Noosa Classic less than two months away the excitement is building!

With that in mind it’s time to look ahead to each course, the Maxi, the Challenge and the Social Classic.

Last week we took a look at the Challenge Classic and in our final installment, the Social Classic will be placed under the microscope.

Where am I starting?

You’ll kick off proceedings in Tewantin, a leisurely 5km stroll from Hastings Street in Noosa. It won’t be long before you leave the coast behind though and enter a diverse and midly challenging landscape.

What will I see?

The Noosa hinterland is one of the most beautiful in the country and not just because of the environment.

You’ll pass through the lakeside town of Boreen Point. Enjoy a rest stop and coffee by Lake Cootharaba or just up the road a beer or wine at the historic Apollonian Hotel.

The local pub was constructed in the heydey of the 1870s Gympie Gold Rush and sat in Gympie until 1985 when it was moved to the picturesque village of Boreen Point on the shores of Lake Cootharaba.

Set on 3½ acres and surrounded by rainforest gardens, waving palms and rolling lawns, the Apollonian Hotel shows the charm and elegance of colonial past with its wide, cool verandahs and open fireplaces.

Once refreshed, mosey on back to the Noosa Classic village for further refreshments and great music.

Is there a King/Queen of the mountain stage?

There is no KOM or QOM segment during the Social Classic.

What sort of numbers am I going to rack up?

As the name suggets the Social Classic is very much a relaxed ride through some beautiful scenery. It is a larely flat 45km cycle with ample room to stop and take breaks while going at a leisurely pace. You’ll only gain 238m of elevation over the whole course.

Where can I take a break?

The official rest-stop is at Boreen Point. There you can find toilets, food and water.

How can I practice?

Both Strava and Map My Ride have specially-created courses so you can hit the road on the weekend and start prepping!
