If you’re basing yourself in Thredbo the days can start with a sweet hit from The Bakery in the Village Square and Friday Flat Donut Hut, or a more nutritious pregame meal with sandwiches at Avalanche Café or noodles at Central Road 2625. After the race, a more casual night in can be found at Thredbo Burger Bar and The Mad Mexican. For your more go-all-out options look at Après Bar for an oyster and vino or book a table at Cascades to try freshly caught local trout.
Just outside Thredbo are some spectacular venues. If you’re travelling north, Three Blue Ducks at Nimbo Fork Lodge is among the best farm-to-table restaurants in the state, Mouat’s Farm in Batlow is a family-run apple orchard with a quaint shop, and Courabyra Wines is a cool-climate winery available for tours and dining in.
Travellers heading east will find good cuppas at Birchwood and Coffee Beats Drinks in Jindabyne, and a tipple at Kosciuszko Brewing and Pinot’s Wine Bar. For something more substantial, Cooma’s Roses Restaurant is brilliant for a Lebanese feast, and head to Miss Heidi’s Austrian Tea House for a goulash in an alpine wooden cabin.
