Ride For Harbison and Make A Difference

By 14 October 2021Snowy News 2021

The Snowy Classic (and all Classics events) are committed to making a difference through our charity initiatives. Our mission is to provide both individual riders and teams the opportunity to fundraise for whichever charity they wish to support. We are giving the power back to riders. You choose a cause you are passionate about. Since the inaugural Bowral Classic event in 2016, the Classic events have raised over $400,000 for charities across Australia.

Before you go and start fundraising, we want to teach you a little bit about charity partner, Harbison…

Nestled in the beautiful Southern Highlands of NSW, Harbison is proud to be a community-owned aged care provider. For over 60 years, Harbison has provided professional and personalised care to the community’s older citizens.

Our person-centred approach delivers a holistic range of care and lifestyle programs tailored to each resident’s individual needs and goals. Harbison offers leisure and recreational programs uniquely designed to engage and support social, cognitive, emotional, spiritual and physical wellbeing.

This year, Harbison is incredibly excited to be a charity partner for the first Snowy Classic in 2022. While the elite race for a personal best in the Maxi rides, Harbison will enjoy chauffeuring riders and guests in our Trishaws, piloted by Harbison Staff and volunteers. Harbison’s passengers will experience the majestic scenery of the Snowy Mountains high country as they socialise with others around the stunning shoreline of Lake Jindabyne. The Harbison Trishaws will also be launched into the Peloton later this year at the Mudgee Classic.

In the village, the Harbison Team will be showcasing Motiview. Motiview is an internationally recognised easy-to-use cycling simulation therapy. Motiview assists the elderly and people living with dementia to be more physically and cognitively engaged. The Harbison ‘Slow Speed Demons’ participated in the 2019 Motiview Road Worlds for Senior. This year 5,000 cyclists, 206 teams from 11 countries participated in a tight competition across multipleĀ  continents.

Harbison’s two teams, ‘Slow Speed Demons’, Burradoo and ‘Slow Speed Demons’, Moss Vale stood out early at the top of the competition with a fantastic effort and tremendous commitment. In addition, the rest of the world has been able to take part in the engagement through social media and live crosses. Both Harbison teams ranked in the top 10 globally, with Burradoo in 6th place and Moss Vale in 9th place, placing Harbison and Australia on the global stage. Harbison’s megastar, Dorothy Robinson from Moss Vale, is this year’s silver medallist in the ladies class, ranking 2nd in the world.
