One thing Shimano can’t recommend highly enough before the event is taking your pride and joy to your local bike shop.
Get your bike serviced and any consumables replaced – such as chainrings, cassette, chain, pulley wheels, disc rotors, brake pads, shift/brake cables (if you’re using mechanical shifting and/or rim brakes). Don’t forget to check things like bar tape, brake hoods, and importantly, your shoe cleats too.
One of the last things you want is to put in the saddle time, clip in at the start line all smiles; then encounter a mechanical down the road, which either slows you down – or worse, ends the day for you completely. This is something we hear all too often but something that can be easily avoided with some pre-event checks.
Shimano components are engineered to work together as a whole system. So, they always recommend asking your local bike shop to use Shimano Original Parts for optimal performance and longevity from your Shimano components; and that they work together… the way they were designed to.”
