Help the Harbison Team Fundraise during the 2024 Snowy Classic!

By 8 February 2024Snowy News 2024

Harbison was conceived in 1956, out of a desperate need for aged care services in the Southern Highlands. The name Harbison Memorial Homes was formed after the late Dr David Thomas Harbison, a local General Practitioner. In 1976, an appeal was launched to raise funds for a further 100 beds at Burradoo. The government contributed $1.7 million with a further $400,000 raised by the community and in 1997, a new site opened at Moss Vale.

Harbison is an approved provider of Government-funded aged care. We are owned by the community, which means our head office is here in the Southern Highlands and everything we do is to benefit our community. We are not-for-profit, which means every dollar goes into care, not dividends for shareholders or taxes to government. And we have been here for almost 70 years, which means we are the most experienced provider in the Southern Highlands. We operate two residential aged care services at Burradoo and Moss Vale.

Residential aged care is a bundle consisting of supportive accommodation ranging from standard rooms to luxury suites, including award-winning dementia accommodation at Burradoo and women’s dementia accommodation at Moss Vale, basic clinical and personal care and daily services like meals, laundry, cleaning and utilities, and additional care and services that allow you to tailor care to your individual needs and preferences.

At Harbison, we provide holistic care by employing allied health professionals to meet the physical, psychological, and social needs of our residents. These include a clinical psychologist, psychologist, counsellors, a social worker, physiotherapists, dietitian, podiatrist, speech pathologist, occupational therapist, and dental hygienist. We also employ Nurse Practitioners to provide primary care on site, which supplements and supports the care provided by your GP.

Harbison has strong community partnerships including our school-aged multi-generational care programs which provide benefits to young and old alike. We promote an active and healthy approach to ageing, including our Motiview program, the first in Australia.
