Mastering Tyre Maintenance: Tips for Optimal Performance

By 19 February 2024Snowy News 2024

There’s not long now til you’ll be taking on those infamous Snowy climbs. Check your tyres before you ride! That’s the message from Schwalbe as we veer towards the 2024  Snowy Classic Gran Fondo event!

Finding the Right Pressure:
Maintaining the correct tyre pressure is crucial for optimal performance and safety. While the ideal pressure varies depending on factors like tyre size and rider weight, a general rule of thumb is to aim for a pressure that provides a balance between comfort and efficiency.

Inspecting for Wear and Damage:
Regular visual inspections are essential for identifying signs of wear and damage that could compromise tyre performance and safety. Look for:

  • Tread Wear: Examine the tyre tread for signs of uneven wear or bald spots. Worn tread reduces traction and increases the risk of slipping, especially in wet conditions.
  • Cuts and Punctures: Check for cuts, punctures, or embedded debris that could lead to flats or blowouts. Remove any foreign objects lodged in the tyre and assess the severity of damage.
  • Sidewall Integrity: Inspect the sidewalls for cracks, bulges, or other abnormalities that indicate structural weakness. Weak sidewalls are prone to failure and can result in sudden tyre blowouts.
