Tucked away in the Southern Highlands is the Bendooley Estate, boasting a magnificent 200-acre property with established cool-climate gardens and the iconic Berkelouw Book Barn. In addition to our new and antiquarian bookstore, the property hosts exquisite weddings, events, wine-tasting and private dining experiences.
With the Bowral Classic event being held on a Sunday there is no excuse not to make the most of the weekend in the Southern Highlands.
Hidden within the Book Barn is a dining experience like no other.
Surrounded by bookcases, sit at one of the timber tables made of reclaimed wood from trees that have fallen on the property, then taste the fresh and wholesome locally sourced produce for lunch or dinner.
A warm ambiance is created by the wooden-clad roof and the distinctive smell of new and old books. Certainly an experience you won’t forget at the Bendooley Estate Resturant.
Head next door to the Cellar Door, an astonishing and inspiring space. Built from locally-sourced stone with pitched timber ceilings, steel beams and extensive use of glass, the structure has been architecturally engineered to become an extension of the vineyard. Centred around a magnificent and unique circular fireplace that draws on medieval craftsmanship and is a testament to local artistry, this is a space designed to inspire an international wine-tasting and epicurean journey.
Featuring a specially commissioned artwork by John Olsen that is dramatic in both size and gastronomic symbolism, and a bar hewn from a naturally-fallen 170-year-old radiata pine from the Estate, a private dining experience becomes an elegant celebration amidst vineyard views. With intimate seating available, enjoy a delicate selection of cheese and light meals to compliment your wine-tasting experience.
Formerly Bendooley Estate’s gatekeeper’s residence, the Book Barn Cottage is a beautifully appointed, fully self-contained house. Refurbished in contemporary style, this two-bedroom weatherboard bungalow exudes warmth, ambience and country elegance. Get in quick, this will get snapped up quickly!
Wander around the vineyards on the property or enjoy a contemporary dining experience, there is plenty to do whilst at the Bendooley Estate.
