Bicycling Australia, the nation’s leading cycling media brand and home of The Classics, is excited to host for its 5th year, the Bowral Classic on the 16th & 17th of October 2021. After cancelling the 2020 event due to COVID-19, the cycling event has attracted strong interest from riders and will no doubt sell out.
Set in New South Wales’ beautiful Southern Highlands, the Bowral Classic will see over 3,500 cyclists from across the country participate in one of four road cycling events: the 150km Maxi Classic, the 120km Challenge Classic, 85km Rouleurs Classic or 35km Social Classic.
The courses have been designed to showcase the best of the region, passing through the rolling hills of Bowral, Berrima, Sutton Forest, Robertson and Kangaloon.
This year will see the addition of two exciting events to be held on Saturday of the event weekend. These include a gravel ride through the Belanglo State Forest and a Criterium ride around Bradman Oval, Bowral. Gravel is all the rage these days, and we have designed, ridden and honed a thrilling adventure course just 20-minutes from Bowral. Criteriums offer the most fan-friendly and high-paced racing and the Bowral event is sure to attract some of the big hitters of the sport on the Saturday afternoon.
A major coup for the region, the Bowral Classic attracts not only 3,500 riders but their families and spectators as well. The economic benefit the event brings to the region is estimated at over $2,500,000.
NSW Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said the NSW Government was proud to support the Bowral Classic.
“We recognise the value that regional events bring into local towns – they create jobs, boost visitation, increase community morale and above all, contribute to our State’s economic recovery,” he said.
“It’s great to have the Bowral Classic back on the 2021 events calendar, and with the region’s incredible cycling routes, stunning scenery and great food and wine, this event will be one not to miss for cycling enthusiasts across the country,” Mr Ayres said.
James Yaffa, Founder of The Classics, said Bowral’s rich history and sensational tourism attributes make it one of our most exciting events. “We are looking forward to delivering a very special weekend for our riders,” he said. “We thank the Bowral community and the NSW Government for their continued support and we look forward to a spectacular weekend.”
There will be limited road closures which will be communicated to residents within the coming months. Residents are urged to stay off the roads when possible and be mindful of cyclists. For more information on road closures, please visit www.bowralclassic.com.au/community
Locals are encouraged to get involved with the event, through registering for the ride and enjoying the on-course support, volunteering or hosting a food stall in the Event Village. Head to www.bowralclassic.com.au for more information.
