Riding Your First Mass Event? Here’s How to Nail the 2025 Bowral Classic

Thinking about signing up for your first big cycling event? Maybe the idea has been sitting in your group chat or floating around in the back of your mind. If you’ve been waiting for a sign.. this is it. The 2025 Bowral Classic is the perfect place to roll into your first mass participation ride. Scenic, challenging, and a hell of a good time!

Get Your Entry In

First things first: stop putting it off. Once you register, you’ve made a commitment, to yourself, to your ride crew, and to your training. Procrastination is the biggest roadblock for first-time riders. By locking it in early, you’ve given yourself a solid goal to work towards, and enough time to achieve it.

Ride for a Cause

At the Bowral Classic, you ride, you decide. We believe every pedal stroke should count for something bigger, which is why riders can choose to raise funds for a charity of their choice. Or, join us in supporting our official charity partner, the Quest for Life Foundation, who do incredible work supporting Australians through illness, grief, trauma and mental health challenges.

Find Your Ride Crew

Training solo is fine  but riding with mates makes the whole experience more fun.  Ask around at your local cycling club, gym, or even among friends and coworkers. You’ll be surprised how many people are already riding, or thinking about it. Plus, if you register as a team of 4 or more, you’ll score an extra 10% off your entry fee.

Start Training (Yes, Now)

The Bowral Classic offers three distances:

  • 85km Rouleurs – the perfect intro to Gran Fondo events

  • 120km Challenge – great for intermediate riders building endurance

  • 150 km Maxi – for the full-day warriors

Whichever you choose, give yourself a few months to train. Start by riding 2–3 times per week, slowly increasing distance and duration. Consistency matters more than speed when you’re starting out. And don’t forget to include a few hills – the Southern Highlands will deliver plenty on the day!

Get Your Bike Serviced

Your bike is your best mate on event day, so show it some love. Book in a full service with your local bike shop about a month before the event. While you’re there, stock up on ride-day essentials: spare tube, tyre levers, mini pump or CO2, and a saddle bag to stash it all in. A well-running bike = less stress and more smiles on the road.

See You at the Start Line

Your first mass participation ride should feel exciting,  not intimidating. The Bowral Classic is as supportive as it is scenic. You’ll be surrounded by good people, fresh country air, and the buzz of achieving something truly special.
