By 3 July 20192019 News

The Southern Highlands is one of the most beautiful and unique regions in the country. From its quaint villages to grand national parks, the Highlands has long been a popular spot for people looking to escape and re-charge their batteries.

Come October, Bowral (the unofficial capital of the region) will transform into a cycling hub. The 20th will see the Bowral Classic Gran Fondo Event roll in and out of town as participants get to explore the Highlands in the best way possible.

You may have already got your accommodation sorted but for those that haven’t we have tracked down some of the best in and around the region. Who knows, you may love it so much you’ll be back in no time!

Bowral Hotel

Located right in the heart of Bowral on the magnificently named Bong Bong street, the Bowral Hotel is more than just rooms. You’ll have access to a bistro serving nightly specials and live music. The Garden rooms available offer solid timber floorboards for peace of mind, 44-inch smart TVs and a modern feel including marble bathrooms.

Renowned for exceptional hospitality and a relaxed atmosphere, the Bowral Hotel is the perfect place to put your feet up after a hard day’s riding!

Peppers Craigieburn

Built in 1887 as a private country homestead it was actually a grazing property until 1909. Over the years it has established itself as one of the Southern Highlands’ most discreet and luxurious guesthouses. Perfect for big families, Peppers Craigieburn offers a diverse choice of rooms featuring a modern decor.

The property also features a 9-hole golf course, lake for fly fishing, gym, billiards and spa.

Berida Hotel

Just minutes from Bowral’s main street, the Berida Hotel has been a presence in the town since it was built as a home in 1925. Boasting 43 restored rooms, Berida offers guests the heritage and style of a grand country manor but the ease of being within strolling distance of all of Bowral’s sights and sounds.

Oh and the Grand Suite package will knock your socks off!

The Pines Pastoral

A proper country experience this one. While the above selections offer quite stylish features, the Pines Pastoral has a different way of doing things. Built on a cattle farm near Moss Vale, the Pines boasts six contained cottages, all restored in classic country style. Choose from the fantastically-named Platypus Cottage (an old dairy) or try the Possums Cottage (a traditional Aussie farmhouse) just to name a couple.
