Maxi Classic 175km Walkthrough

By 20 August 20192019 News

With the 2019 Bowral Classic not too far away we thought it time to take a closer look at each course! First under the microscope is the flagship 175km Maxi Classic.

So where am I starting?

Riders will kick things off on the historic main street of Bowral before heading out to Centennial Road and then the Old Hume Highway. From there you will enter some of the most scenic countryside Australia has to offer.

What will I see?

It won’t be long before you head back towards Bowral and take on the Oxley Hill climb, offering some pretty majestic views.

Throughout the course you’ll zoom through the historic townships of Berrima, Exeter and Bundanoon. In between you’ll pass rolling hills and countryside so picturesque you’ll think you’re riding one of the Grand Tours.

The jewel in the Maxi Classic’s crown is undoubtedly Fitzroy Falls. You’ll get to experience the unrivalled beauty of this waterfall and the accompanying views before passing through picturesque Robertson and the wonderfully named Kangaloon on the way back to Bowral.

Is there a King/Queen of the Mountain stage?

You bet. Oxley Hill is the name of the climb and will appear approximately 65km into the course.

What sort of numbers am I going to rack up?

The Maxi is 175km long over which you’ll gain 2097m in elevation. The King/Queen of the Mountain segment is 1.3km long with an elevation gain of 137m including a max grade of 13%.

How can I practice?

Both Strava and Map My Ride have specially-created courses so you can hit the road on the weekend and start prepping!
