Giant Sydney proudly supports the Bowral Classic. They are a huge wealth of knowledge, just as big as their name! The team offers up a bit of background information and tips to help you get ready for the Bowral Classic.
Giant Sydney is more than just a bicycle retailer, how so? Our Giant Sydney team members genuinely love bicycles, from road racing to mountain bike adventures to touring to unicycling. So when you speak to one of us, you’ll be speaking to someone with experience who shares your enthusiasm.
It’s important to us that we don’t just sell you a bicycle or product, but that we provide you the ongoing support and services to make the most out of your riding. These include professional bio-mechanical bike fitting (included with new bike purchases), in-house coaching services, top quality servicing – for all bicycles, not just Giants! And advice about everything from nutrition to commuting around Sydney to rides and groups to join.
What are some of the ways Giant Sydney engages with the cycling community? Giant Sydney is proud to support the wider Sydney cycling community, in particular the Giant Cycling Club Sydney and our women’s Liv Cycling Sydney community.
Giant Cycling Club Sydney (GCCS) was born to help give riders a pathway into the sport. GCCS members run for fun, fitness and competition and participate in a number of road and mountain bike events throughout the year. Members can also access VIP benefits through Giant Sydney.

Liv Cycling Sydney runs free monthly women’s social road and mountain bike rides, as well as events such as our recent Training Tips evening at Giant Sydney. Our four Liv Cycling Sydney ambassadors are strong advocates and examples of the fun and freedom which can be found through riding your bicycle – whether that be through commuting to work or racing the Ironman World Championships.
You can find the range of Liv Cycling women’s specific bicycles, apparel and accessories (handcrafted by Giant) at Giant Sydney.
We are also proud to support top Sydney triathletes Owain Matthews and Tim Ford – genuine good blokes who put a whole lot back into their local riding communities.
Could you tell me a bit about the Over Yonder Racing Team? Over Yonder Racing is a bunch of mates who love riding their bicycles – often on epic outdoor adventures – and want to inspire other people to do the same through incredible photography and great stories. The guys (and gal) don’t do too bad on the race circuit either, but that’s not the main focus. It’s all about the road less travelled. Over Yonder Racing ride Giant bicycles (of course), and their NSW bike shop of choice is Giant Sydney. We’re always happy to help get their bikes running smoothly again after a 4-day cyclocross mudfest!
“Over Yonder Racing is a sidestep from our workaday lives and a return to the great outdoors. We document our travels and tales here in the hope of inspiring others to get outside and explore this big, beautiful world, while also promoting a healthy, and sustainable, co-existence with nature.”
The store also runs the Giant Sydney Classic Rides Series, could you tell me more about these and how do potential riders get involved? Sydney has some pretty incredible road cycling loops, which we wanted to share with our community. Hence our free Giant Sydney Classic Rides Series was born. The monthly rides have included routes like Akuna Bay – West Head and Sydney – Kurnell return. Each loop is 60-100km and averages a steady 25km/hr. Bookings essential – check out giantsydney.com.au/giant-sydney-classic-rides-series/ for more info.
The Bowral Classic has a 160km max distance, what are some ways Giant Sydney can help entrants prepare for the event? For an endurance event like the Bowral Classic, you want to make sure you are as comfortable and efficient on your bicycle as possible. This is where a professional bike fit can work wonders. Get your cycling position assessed at Giant Sydney from just $99.
If you’re thinking you might be due for a bicycle upgrade, take a look at our monthly specials or come in and talk to us about putting together a package for you.
A few key items of gear can also make a big difference to how at home you feel on the bike. Investing in a quality pair of bib shorts, padded gloves, cycling jersey with pockets (and maybe some anti-chafing chamois cream) are our recommended essentials.
Heading into winter, motivation can be tricky. That’s where having some mates to do those longer rides with can really help. Take a look at our free monthly Giant Sydney classic rides or joining the Giant Cycling Club Sydney to keep you on track. Or really level up your training with a personal training program from our in-house coaching service.
It’s a good idea to test out your nutrition before the big event. We recommend buying a few different gels, bars and electrolytes from our cycling specific range to check what works for you during training.
You want to make sure everything goes smoothly for the big day, so pop a note in your diary to book your bike in for servicing a week or two beforehand – you’ll feel the difference.
Remember, we’re here to help! So don’t be shy – pop into store, pick up the phone or flick us an email. We look forward to hearing from you.
Get involved with the Giant Sydney community! We’d love to see what riding adventures you are up to – just tag @giantsydney #giantsydney on social media to share. We regram our favourite fan photo each friday.
Thanks to Alice King for chatting to us at the Bowral Classic.
