veronica russel for Pro Cycling CoachesVeronica has been the head female coach at Pro Cycling Coach for 5 years. She coaches female riders of every level to be the best they can be. She loves the social atmosphere of cycling and introduces her clients to the community of like-minded riders and builds their confidence on the bike and using the road.

Raised in the country Veronica will feel right at home in the Southern Highlands come October.

Aaron from PCC has given riders a few tips to help them conquer the ride.

“The most important thing when preparing yourself for the Bowral Classic is leaving enough time before the event to train your metabolic systems and incrementally increasing the length of your rides. If you are an average cyclist riding three to four times per week, it is important that you commence your preparation a good 3-4 months prior to the event.
“Your rides should be evenly spread across the week, and one of your weekly rides should be designated as your long steady distance ride- this is the ride that you will focus on increasing the distance each week. You should aim to complete a few 160km rides prior to the event.”
Veronica and Aaron recognise the benefit of giving riders the skills to be safe on the road but to also be able to handle a bike in a group scenario, such as the Bowral Classic.
“Mass start events can sometimes be a little intimidating when first participating. The most important thing is that you don’t get too flustered. The closer to the front the faster the riders tend to be, so if it’s your first longer ride and you’re unsure of were to start, place yourself closer to the back and have a nice social day out.
“It’s better to ride at your own pace than to burn out keeping up with more advanced riders. The mass start tends to break up into groups, so if you get dropped early on, another group won’t be far behind you.”

Pro Cycling coach can help you prepare to perform your best at any event. With the right coaching and guidance cycling can become a much more enjoyable experience as well as achieving PB’s more regularly. They have their women specific groups for girls looking to become more confident. PCC also provide cycle specific strength and conditioning coaching to ensure you are in tip top shape.
