Kickstart Your Bowral Classic Training: Winter Tips to Rev Up Your Ride

By 24 July 2024July 31st, 20242024 News, Uncategorised

We’re over halfway through winter, and it’s about time we give those wheels a good spin as the countdown to the 2024 Bowral Classic begins. The chilly months might be a bit of a drag, but let’s flip the script and start building that momentum.

Set Some Goals

Goals keep you focused (.. and give you something to brag about!)  Setting short-term goals in your training is a game-changer for building momentum. These bite-sized targets, like hitting a weekly distance, or nailing that hill you always avoid, keeps you motivated and focused – gotta love a dopamine hit!

Layer Up

Base layers, mid-layers, and a waterproof top. Once the initial temp shock is overwritten by the thrill of being out on the road, you’ll find yourself wondering how and why your mojo dwindled in the first place. Visibility is also key, so gear up with bright, reflective clothing and solid lights.

Mix It Up

Variety keeps you keen. Whether it’s shifting from intense interval sessions to longer endurance rides, trying out a new route or tackling adifferent terrain, having a diverse training routine will help keep the motivation high. Social rides, or workouts with mates is another great way to inject fun into your training.

Fuel & Recover Like A Champ

Eating well and resting up keeps you in top form. Eating a balanced diet rich in carbohydrates, proteins, and healthy fats provides the energy you need for your rides and aids in muscle repair and recovery. Hydration is equally crucial—drink plenty of water before, during, and after your workouts to keep your body functioning at its best. Be sure to include rest days into your routine, allowing your body to adapt and recover.

Embrace the chill, stay committed, and stay safe on the roads. We’ll see you in October!
