One town that’s an absolute must-see is historic Gulgong, just 30km from Mudgee but a world away and a genuine journey back into the nation’s past.

Famous as being ‘the town on the $10 note’, Gulgong is one of Australia’s best-preserved historic villages. A 19th-Century gold rush town, Gulgong oozes character, history and charm.

Highlights include the town’s various pubs and cafes, more than 150 National Trust listed buildings, the Prince Of Wales Opera House, Gulgong Pioneers Museum and the mesmerising Holtermann photographic museum.
